The JW past effects everyone in different ways.

for my cong, apart from those moving in, we last had an elder appointed 16 years ago.. we last had some ms's appointed about 3 years ago.. our boe are getting old, 3 in their 80's, 1 in his 70's and three in their 60's.. they all work hard, but when their time comes, they deteriorate quickly.. splash.
Just before I left we had two elders removed for watching porn.
Another committed suicide.
Still another, ran off with a young regular pioneer sister and left his wife.
No new appointments.
Things are fairly rosey in JW-land.

the persecution article seemingly attempts to portray jws as unfairly persecuted.
We need a concerted effort to monitor dishonest Watchtower article uploads and be vigilent about correctling false submissions.
The Watchtower has learned that the internet is a powerful tool for communciating information to the public and they desire to manipulate it with their massive spin doctor factory.
We cannot let this happen. We will not let this happen.
Sorry Watchtower. Our bullshit detectors are buzzing. It's time to make some corrections.

what do you do when you suspect a jw is on the way out?...you may notice that they don't talk about meetings or service on social media...they don't even list jw as their religion.
How about "Boo-Yah"?
for me it has been a journey through these books: "crisis of conscience", "in search of christian freedom", "combatting cult mind control", "releasing the bonds", "i'm perfect you're doomed", "confessions of a teenage jesus jerk", "evolution for dummies", "the god delusion", "god is not great", and "the end of faith", along with various books about zen philosophy.. these movies have also been important: "religulous" and "worlds apart".. some books i am interested in reading next are "the spanking room", "growing up in mama's club", and "1984".
who has read these?
do you recommend them?.
All great books that have helped to inspire me over the last 5 years.
Couldn't really imagine me being me without having read all of these books.
Highly recommend each one, but my favorite is 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

it struck me, as i guess it has a lot of people, that there are so many threads from both americans and the rest of us that seem to descend into america bashing.
i thought it might be quite nice to have a thread solely (and i mean solely - if this just turns negative i will call foul) on what we think is great about america.
as a brit who has lived and been over a number of times there are many parts about america that i think are great and thought is would be healthy to have a positive thread for a change.. so a starter for ten (with a few gross generalisations thrown in):.

You need a plan.
You don't have to leave alone if you don't want to. For many people that is the easiest way for them to do it - just to fade out on their own.
For others, it works out better if you can take out a few family members or close friends with you. It all depends on your circumstances.
If for YOU - the best way to exit is to do it WITH a few family members (it sounds like this may be the case, if you love them much and you are that close to them) then as I said - you need a plan and your wish will come true. It doesn't matter how die hard the JW is - somewhere underneath the surface is a brain. You just need to reach it.
This will take patience. And it takes determination, and strong will. It's easy to blow it if you are not careful.
The key is to get your family to wake up on their own. The direct approach does not work. It has to be subtle. They need to come to their own conclusions, but you can facilitate this. Those who are captives to a high control group do not come out easily - but they do come out. You and I, and hundreds of thousands of others are testinomy to the fact that you can escape.

This will help immeasurably with my efforts to free a few specific members of my family.
When I left i was pressed for a reason and one I offered was my complete disagreement and disgust with how we (JWs) handle child abuse cases.
These people could not and would not accept what I was telling them to be true. Now it has been fully exposed and fully been conceded by the WT to be true.
This will more than make them stop to pause and think.
This will lead to their exit from a mind control cult.
